Ascending Sun, Returning Tide

The image on the top is a quick plein air study off the Wharf Lot in Annisquam, 9x12, that I must thank for inspiring many other paintings. I had used a panel previously toned with Cadmium Yellow Deep. Quite blinding out in the sun actually. But the ensuing chroma, hue and value choices intrigued me, so I began a series. The image on the bottom is the first progress shot of my first larger painting "Ascending Sun, Returning Tide" 30x36.

"A Morning with Kerr" Oil on canvas 11x14

This small dock has hosted constant activity and joy over the years. My stepdaughter, the blond on the left, spent her childhood catching flounder(I think) and crabs. My daughter and her cousins and friends did the same, although the flounder are long gone. Now my grandsons watch by the hour for the crabs to catch onto the baited hook, captives for the day. So, imagine my humble pleasure when the older of the two boys chose to spend the morning painting his view of the scene as I painted mine. At the end, I asked him to go to the top of the ramp so that I could include him. He is wearing very cool sunglasses.

I put this one up so that I could practice typing in a red "sold". But, alas, it defeats me. When I tried to start the body of the type it remained bold. So, now I will try adding the "sold" after I've done the description.
I tried to keep this one moving under the blast of light diffused by moist atmosphere. Not really satisfied.
