This painting can be viewed during my solo show at the Spiral Press Cafe, adjoining the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, VT from November 18, 2009 through the holiday season. Please stop in if you happen to be in the area, look at the work, purchase your favorites, and leave comments on the blog! Back in June I started this portrait and actually thought it was finished but my daughter thought not. So I went back to it and then my hard drive crashed and I had no more reference photo as I hadn't printed it out. There are many lessons here. It sat as a reminder of them for a few months. Finally I decided that since it was a disaster the way I'd left it, I would work on it from my imagination with no references. I didn't worry about whether it looked like my daughter anymore, I just worked with cool light/warm shadow.

The painting is still beautiful. I like the shawl.
Dale, this is a beautiful painting. Really lovely and it has a peaceful feel to it.

Thank you Melanie and Joan.
This is a wonderful portrait - nice planes in the face, really beautiful. She looks very real and lively.
Wow!
I sure thought this one was done back then.
But... must say,
It has more life to it now.
Sweet expression!
and greater variety...
more entertaining!
Thanks Jill and Connie,
When I compare them, I can't believe I thought it was done before.
This is a great portrait! Does it look like her? I bet it does. She is very pretty.--even though I do not know her---I can tell that she is a truly lovely young person. She's young but her comportment is mature. Stellar!
